At CES 2026, robot vacuum manufacturers continued to showcase experimental designs that push beyond conventional floor-cleaning capabilities. Among the more unconventional concepts on display was Dreame’s Cyber X, a research prototype designed to address one of the longstanding limitations of robotic vacuums: navigating multi-story homes with full staircases.
The Cyber X stands out due to its integrated mechanical climbing system, which features large, treaded legs that allow the device to move between floors without human assistance (just like the Roborock Saros Rover). First previewed at IFA in Berlin, the concept has evolved into a more refined demonstration at CES. According to Dreame, the system is capable of climbing steps up to 25 centimeters in height and handling slopes of up to 42 degrees. It can navigate both straight and curved staircases and reportedly completes a full flight of stairs in approximately 27 seconds.
Instead of using its rubberized treads to climb stairs in a humanoid fashion, the Cyber X moves horizontally. This method prioritizes stability and controlled ascent, producing movement more akin to a compact tracked vehicle than a conventional vacuum. During in-person demonstrations at Dreame’s booth, the prototype moved up and down stairs with little resistance.
Interestingly, the vacuum unit itself is a separate component from the stair-climbing platform. The vacuum can be moved between floors by docking inside the larger climbing chassis. This system addresses the logistical problem of relocating a robot vacuum throughout a multi-story house without the need for manual carrying, even though it does not appear to clean stairs directly.
Traditional vacuum cleaner robot vs. Cyber X
Additional features of the vacuum unit include a laser-based navigation system to help with obstacle detection and positioning, as well as an integrated water tank for mopping purposes. Even if the battery runs out, a braking system is built in to keep the vehicle stable on stairs or incline surfaces.

As Dreame has made clear, the Cyber X is still a research project and not a commercial product. Although the prototype shows possible directions for future robotic cleaning solutions in multi-story living environments, the company has not disclosed plans for mass production.
