BYD has officially launched the second-generation Seagull, introducing a major redesign that delivers larger dimensions, advanced technology, and a rear-wheel-drive layout.

The popular compact electric vehicle has grown significantly. It is now 16.7 inches longer, reaching 13.8 feet, with a 5.9-inch wheelbase extension to 8.7 feet and an extra 3.5 inches in width. This expansion transforms the interior into a spacious five-seater and introduces a 3.3-cubic-foot front trunk (frunk).

Inside, the cabin features a redesigned dashboard anchored by a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the traditional instrument cluster has been completely removed.
Performance receives a massive boost. The drive system has shifted from the front axle to the rear, paired with a new independent multilink rear suspension. Electric motor outputs have nearly doubled, jumping from the previous 75 horsepower to configurations ranging between 116 hp and 129 hp.

Energy is supplied by 30.1 kWh and 39.2 kWh battery packs, delivering a range of up to 420 kilometers under the CLTC testing cycle. Furthermore, the vehicle now supports ultra-fast charging technology, capable of taking the battery from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and reaching 97% in 9 minutes at compatible charging stations.

The new Seagull also elevates driver assistance tech with advanced ADAS capabilities. It can recognize traffic signs, automatically steer around road obstacles, maintain lane centering, self-park, and execute remote parking maneuvers without a driver inside the car.
Priced starting at 65,900 yuan (~$9,868) in China—roughly translating to an impressive entry-level value that is 5.7% cheaper than its predecessor—setting a new benchmark for affordable, high-tech electric mobility.
