Ugoos X5M Pro is a TV box based on Amlogic S905X5M chipset, which is one of the new budget chipsets from Amlogic (no VCC/H.266 support for instance). This box is similar if not identical to it’s older brothers from X4 family (reviewed here in the past), and the specs are simply upgraded. Aside for BT 5.4, the included IR/BT Remote control also functions as a air mouse (saving you a few bucks).
Thank you James for you continued support and for providing this review sample!
What’s in the Box?
X5M Pro is a small, black plastic box, with the logo shiny on top where the LED indicator is also located, and a IR/BT transceiver is placed in the front, behind vent holes. It is perforated along the sides to provide better passive cooling, and is quite small, sturdy and light at 111 grams.
X5M Pro Box Contents
Here are the items that come in the box: X5M Pro, Two antennas, BT+IR remote control, HDMI 2.1 cable, a 12v power adapter and a UK adapter plug, as well as a small user manual.

X5M Pro Benchmarks and Testing
All completed benchmarks have been repeated 3 times and results have been averaged to give a more accurate reading:
Antutu Benchmark
The Antutu benchmark tests single core performance over multi-core as it is a better indication of the performance of one device over others in most situations. Ugoos X5M Pro takes fifth place (in Antutu 10) and also fifth place in Antutu 9. This can be expected of the modest chipset included in this box.
GPU Mark Benchmark
GPU Mark tests 3d gaming performance and also provides a normalized score according to the used screen resolution (for a more accurate result). The test is quite short and should be taken as a supporting result to that of the more serious 3D Mark benchmark. Ugoos X5M Pro reached 3rd place in average frames per second, and 4th place in the average and screen normalized score. This is a better-than-average result for this hardware.
A1 SD Benchmark
A1 SD Benchmark tests RAM and flash memory speeds. As can be seen in the provided graphs, RAM is much faster (by a factor of about 40) than flash memory – that is why it’s in smaller amount and is also volatile (does not keep its contents after a reboot). Ugoos X5M Pro takes 8th place in RAM copy speed test, and 5th place in Internal storage speed tests. However, just like Ugoos AM9, the Ugoos X5M Pro was unable to recognize and test the MicroSD card, even though Android itself was able to. Therefore testing of the MicroSD read/write speeds are missing.
PC Mark Benchmark
Ugoos X5M Pro gets fifth place in this extensive suite of productivity tests which is designed to show a more balanced picture of an android device’s ability to perform various tasks such as spreadsheet calculations, photo editing, complex web page browsing and more. It is a very placemen, just under its much more powerful brothers, AM9, AM8 Pro, and SK1.
3D Mark Benchmark
3D Mark benchmark is considered as one of the best ways to test 3d performance on Android (and other platforms). Ugoos X5M Pro takes 7th place in “Slingshot Extreme”, and 5th place in “Wild Life”.
X5M Pro Extra Benchmarks
For some more information, see the following screenshots from other benchmarks such as Vellamo, Geekbench 5, Geekbench 6, Passmark Perf Test Mobile, GPU Mark, GFX Bench,, and AndroBench:

Bugs and Issues
- No physical button
- A1SD benchmark fails to find and test external micro-sd cards (although they appear and are accessible via file managers)
- X5M Pro is lacking Dolby Vision support (even though the chipset supports it, the license was not purchased for this model)
- Choppy audio in some (but not all) videos – still not resolved even after several firmware updates.
X5M Pro Root function
X5m Pro come with a built-in root function (based on Magisk) which works like a charm. All you need to do is go to the settings, locate it under Ugoos settings section, and turn it on or off as needed. It will keep after reboot, till you decide to turn it off. The power and decision are all yours!
X5M Pro Video Playback testing (Using KODI)
The X5M Pro box does perform well in day to day situations (most videos played are 1080p as well as standard 4k and even HDR/HDR10, and AV1 encoded video files), however, it cannot handle 8k video, nor Dolby Vision.
X5M Pro Network performance
I tested the network performance using the popular Speedtest.net application from the play store. I tested both Wi-Fi (the fastest Wi-Fi supported – in this case 5GHz 802.11ax, or Wi-Fi 6), and wired connection. My home connection is a symmetric 1Gbe Fiber connection so it would not limit the test in any way. Ugoos X5M Pro performed quite well with high ranking results for (Wi-Fi 6) 5GHz Wi-Fi network, and even better for wired ethernet (almost using all the given bandwidth):
X5M Pro Gaming performance
Ugoos X5M Pro performed smoothly as expected in the gaming tests. It’s graphic chip can handle games without an issue. However, control may be an issue, unless you splurge for a game pad/controller or other more gaming friendly remote.
Asphalt 8 Airborne – a 3d graphic intensive racing game. X5M ProLoads and runs it smoothly. And with a new wireless game controller, I was able to control it fully (although menu navigation was iffy). However, I was not able to synchronize the game to my google profile (my saved online profile).
Angry Birds 2 – a popular 2d action game. X5M Pro run it smoothly and loaded the stages fast, and unlike previous boxes, it seems unaffected by the freeze bug that is very common with Amlogic boxes and this game.
Walking War Robots – an online robot warfare game that requires a game-pad. X5M Pro runs it well, and with the new wireless game controller, the game is fully operational and enjoyable. However, I was not able to synchronize the game to my google profile (my saved online profile).
X5M Pro Conclusions
Did I like it? Yes and No. Firmware updates solved some of the existing issues, but some videos still produce choppy audio and sync issues. I have reported all such occurrences to Ugoos support.
Would I recommend it? Not unless used with alternative firmware such as CoreElec that should solve the choppy audio issues. Also, lack of Dolby Vision (although the chipset supports it) is a drawback.
You like it! Where can you buy it? Starting from 98 USD Right here:
